IDENTIKITSCH
    A NEW PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION
THURSDAY 16/2/06 - SATURDAY 18/3/06
IDENTIKITSCH is an exhibition of photographs by Peter Herbert involving themes of identification and identity. Styles of photography are loosely connected, ranging from documentary reportage to carefully composed imagery over a varied range of subjects. These include the body, advertising, objects and the environment.   The eye of the photographer is however constantly finding joy and beauty as well as alienation and loneliness in scenes of everyday life at its most playful and extraordinary.
Many of the images reflect photographic ideas of “the decisive moment” made popular by the photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson. Whether it is Buddhist monks enjoying ice-cream on the South Bank, a naked buttock exposed on a train full of silent commuters or gay Muslims exhausted at the end of an emotion packed Pride event, these are images designed to amuse, stimulate and provoke.
IDENTIKITSCH is by Kentish Town photographer Peter Herbert and follows on from previous exhibitions REFLECTION AND LIGHT in 2004 and ALTERED SPACES QUIET PLACES in 2005. A member of the London Independent Photograph group LIP who featured in the 17th annual exhibition, the photographer works for the NHS and is currently involved with art initiatives for Camden Primary Care Trust and Camden and Islington Mental Health and Social Care Trust.
